TRISTANO DI ROBILANT

« Mare Bianco »

10 October - 11 January 2025
Tristano di Robilant (b. 1964 London) is an Italian-American artist, currently living in Ripabianca, Umbria. He graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz where he studied with particular interest the lectures of the architectural critic and historian Reyner Banham. In his work, particularly in blown glass, emotive constructions appear and dissolve; content and form intermingling with the play of light.

His first exhibition was at the Holly Solomon gallery in New York in 1994. He later exhibited widely both in Europe and America. In 2016 he had a solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, in 2017 at the Museo di palazzo Mocenigo, Venice, and in 2022 at the Museo della Ceramica, Mondovi’, and (together with Jose’ Angelino) at the Museo Archeologico Santa Scolastica, Bari. His group exhibitions have included the Museo del Vetro, Murano, Maxxi Museum, Rome and Galleria dell’Accademia, Venice in 2024.

On occasion of his second exhibition at Mazarine Variations, Tristano di Robilant will exhibit some new works in ceramic, paper and glass. Mare bianco is the title of the exhibition suggesting an abstract and contemplative space. The exhibition will include a large wall piece in ceramic, composed of different ceramic panels painted and fired in Ripabianca, Umbria. The glass pieces are all hand blown in Murano with the collaboration of maestro Andrea Zilio, and maestro Andrea Salvagno. Also exhibited are a group of monotypes made for this occasion with the help of the Stamperia d’Arte Berardinelli in Verona.
